February Lesson Spotlight 2025

February Lesson Spotlight

Celebrate February with themed lessons tailored for students in grades K-8 at every skill level! This month, we’re honoring Valentine’s Day, Presidents’ Day, Black History Month, and more with engaging coding lessons that bring these special occasions to life!

February Lesson Spotlight 2025: Katherine Johnson the Human Robot STEAM activity

Katherine Johnson the Human Robot

Celebrate Black History Month with a lesson honoring Katherine Johnson, one of the first Black female NASA mathematicians. Katherine’s calculations helped land astronauts on the moon.

In this STEM lesson, students will learn about her accomplishments and code Ozobot to create a flight path for a spaceship to land on the moon—just like Katherine did!

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 3-5

Subjects: Math, Science, Social Studies, Computer Science, Engineering/Tech

Groundhog’s Day

Will the Groundhog see its shadow this Groundhog’s Day, or will Spring arrive early? In this activity, your students will use Ozobot to create a program for the Groundhog to check for its shadow, combining coding with seasonal fun.

Academic Standards: CCSS, CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: K-2

Subjects: Social Studies, Computer Science, Engineering/Tech

Code to Touchdown

Get your students excited for the Super Bowl with a football-themed coding activity! In this lesson, students will code Ozobot to run a touchdown. They’ll create a randomization code to see how many points their Ozobot can score in a fun, modified game of football.

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 3-5

Subjects: Math, Computer Science, Engineering/Tech

Valentine’s Day

Valentine’s Day is all about love and creativity! In this activity, students will fill out a themed worksheet and then program Ozobot to travel along a red heart, spreading joy and celebrating the day of love with coding fun!

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: K-2

Subjects: Computer Science, Engineering/Tech, SEL/Digital Citizenship

Send Your Valentines

Spread kindness this Valentine’s Day! Students will write letters of appreciation to their classmates and use Ozobot’s bot-to-bot communication to deliver heartfelt messages in a unique way.

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 3-12

Subjects: Computer Science, Engineering/Tech, SEL/Digital Citizenship

President’s Parade

Bring history to life through coding in this engaging lesson! Students will use their understanding of historical events to navigate Ozobot through the maze.

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 2-5

Subjects: Social Studies

President’s Parade – Abraham Lincoln

In honor of Presidents’ Day, celebrate the remarkable life of our 16th president, Abraham Lincoln! Guide Ozobot through key moments of Lincoln’s life using Color Code directions in sequential order.

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 3-5

Subjects: Social Studies, Computer Science, Math, Engineering/Tech, SEL/Digital Citizenship

Cookie Jar (Part 1 of 3)

How many cookies are in the jar? Introduce your students to variables and how they store information—just like a cookie jar holds tasty treats. In this STEM lesson, students will then create an advanced program to help Ozobot count the cookies in the jar!

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 4-6

Subjects: Computer Science

Cookie Jar (Part 2 of 3)

Ozobot has counted all the cookies in the jar! Now, students will combine variables and conditional statements to program Ozobot to signal once it has counted half of the cookies and celebrate once it has counted them all!

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 4-6

Subjects: Computer Science

Cookie Jar (Part 3 of 3)

In our final lesson, students will explore functions to program Ozobot to mix and bake the cookies before placing them in the jar. By integrating functions into their program, they’ll transform Ozobot into a master baker and add that perfect finishing touch!

Academic Standards: CSTA, ISTE

Grade Levels: 4-6

Subjects: Computer Science

Featured Product Lessons:

Ocean Challenge Mat Lesson 1: The Intertidal Zone

Take a journey into the Ocean’s layers using Ozobot to discover the Intertidal Zone. Students will use Ozobot Blockly to program Evo to accomplish a conservation project.

Academic Standards: NGSS, CSTA

Grade Levels: 4-8

Subjects: Science, Computer Science

Basketball Challenge Mat Lesson 1: Bots on the Court

Guide Ozobot across the basketball court, using its proximity sensors to navigate around defenders! Challenge your students to strategically control movement, distance, and rotation for precise execution.
