From the Winter Games to Valentine’s Day, Black History Month, and more, February was filled with celebrations of all types! We loved to see all of the engaging and creative ways educators recognized these special occasions in their classrooms through interactive lessons, competitions, and games.

From Evo, with Love
Angie Stallbaumer’s kindergarten and first-grade classes at Bennett Elementary School had a very STEAM-inspired Valentine’s Day with Evo and the adorable book, ‘If You’ll Be My Valentine,’ by Cynthia Rylant. Students read the story and then used Color Codes to code their Ozobots through the ‘love maze’ to help Birdie deliver a valentine to his lovebird.
Glow for the G-O-L-D
One of the most fun ways to build coding literacy? Competitions! Students at Queen Elizabeth II Sarnia Elementary reminded us of all the fun and excitement competitions can spark with their glow-in-the-dark Ozobot races. Each student coded their ‘race wheel’ to line up, take their mark, and race across the room to the finish line — their energy was contagious!
Coding Through Michael Jordan’s Best Moments
Black History Month, birthdays, basketball, and bots! What a combo! As part of Black History Month, Cindy Gonzalez chose to highlight basketball legend, Michael Jordan, in an exciting STEAM activity to celebrate the occasion. Her second-grade class researched Michael Jordan’s career and then coded an Ozobot to showcase his life accomplishments on a timeline. The best part? Students discovered it was actually Michael Jordan’s birthday on February 17, the day of the project! This might be one of our favorite OzoThings so far this year.
Coding with Kindness
What are two things we always support? Learning to code and kindness! At Ottawa Catholic Schools (OCSB) in Ontario, February 14-18 is Kindness Week. It’s a time when students and staff come together to express their gratitude and appreciation for one another. Students in Ms. Blais’ class celebrated the week by using Evo and Color Codes to help spread the ‘KIND’ message in big bold letters – way to go OCSB!
Victory Lap
Educators at Henrico County Public Schools used the spirit of the Winter Games and drew inspiration from winter sports lessons in Ozobot Classroom to create a figure skating coding competition for her students using Ozobots. The winning coders and Ozobots were awarded in a ceremony with medals and then the first, second and third place bots took a victory lap. Look at them go!
